Collection: Ceiling Lights

Flush mount and semi-flush ceiling lights from Hinkley, Visual Comfort and Lark. They sit close to the ceiling, which makes them ideal for standard 2.4m NZ stud heights. Choose lantern, drum and glass designs for bedrooms, hallways, kitchens and living rooms.

For higher ceilings, see pendant lights and chandeliers. For porches and verandas, see outdoor lights.

Buying guide

Flush mount or semi-flush?

Flush mount ceiling lights sit directly against the ceiling, typically 100–250mm deep. They're the best choice for low ceilings, hallways, wardrobes and anywhere a door swings close by.

Semi-flush ceiling lights typically hang 200–350mm below the ceiling on a short stem, so they spread light more widely and look more decorative. Use them where there's at least 2,100mm clear beneath the lowest point, or where nobody walks directly underneath.

What size ceiling light?

Add the room's length and width in metres and multiply by 8 for a suitable diameter in centimetres. A 3m × 4m bedroom suits a light around 55cm wide; a hallway suits 30–35cm. In larger rooms, use two or more fittings rather than one oversized light.

Bedrooms, kitchens and hallways

In bedrooms, a semi-flush light with a fabric or opal shade gives a soft, glare-free glow. In kitchens and laundries, a flush mount with glass shades gives bright, even light; pair it with pendants over the island. In hallways, space flush mounts every 2.4–3m.

Installation and bulbs

These are hardwired fittings for a licensed electrician to install, and our American fittings are factory-converted to meet AU/NZ electrical standards. Most take a standard E27 bulb, so you can choose dimmable LED and your preferred colour temperature. Candle-style designs usually take the smaller US E12 candle bulb, which an E14 bulb won't fit; each product page lists the bulb it takes, and we stock E12 LED bulbs.
